Plush Ready Artwork

How To Know If Your Arwork is Ready

Understanding What Is Required For Your Prototype

I use the term 'Plush Ready' for artwork that can easily translate to a plush toy. Often I will get artwork from clients that looks nice, but leaves me with many questions as to how to make their toy.

Why do you need it ?

Your image or logo may look cute on a flat piece of paper or computer screen, but transferring that in to a real toy can present some real design issues. The more questions that remain unanswered when your toy is being made, the less likely I will meet your expectations. There is an example below which may explain this more clearly, and you will understand, what may seem 'obvious', doesn't always work out that well.

Why you should not do it yourself ?

You should let me help with images and sketches, since I have handled thousands or projects since 1995. This type of service is fully included in my Basic Startup package, and higher packages.

Example:

This client came to me with a really cute logo. They considered this 'Plush Ready'. I didn't agree. There were too many questions about the look of the physical product.
I asked:
Were the eyes to be different sizes?
Were both eyes on the same side of the head?
How much space was between the ears?
How wide were his ears?
Was one back leg pointing forward and the other pointing sideways?
Was the head to be sewn tilted up?

I recommended some additional sketches, and when I started showing the results, there were some revisions necessary since the new front angle view resulted in new questions.

This eliminated 'surprises' in the prototype stage.

The resulting plush toy was a close match to the vision the client had in their head. The extra time and energy required to work out the details was well worth it, since it saved many weeks, and hundreds of dollars if I had to make a second prototype.
